Name:Kingsley Shacklebolt
Bio:

Full Name: Kingsley Granville Shacklebolt
Nicknames: King, Royal (alias)
Age/Birthday: 5th January 1959
House and Years Attended: Gryffindor alumni '77
Blood Status: half-blood
Occupation: former Auror
Alliance: Order of the Phoenix
Status in Society: Order member in hiding
Boggart: the sea. Kingsley is mildly hydrophobic.
Patronus: Lynx
Personality: Definitely the strong and silent type, Kingsley is not quiet, nor shy, just a little... aloof, laidback, cool, or observant perhaps. Meeting him briefly you might mistakenly think he was a very serious person, but in fact he has a keen sense of humour, easily triggered, and a laugh known to make people jump in it's suddenness. He likes to be near people who amuse him and will happily linger on the outside of daft conversations with a small smile playing on his lips. His heart is in the right place and most people would describe him as a good bloke. Somehow, despite being tall, big, cool, and a little bit mysterious, he manages to not intimidate most people, although they still might not be able to say they know him that well. A good mood for Kingsley is one where he is engrossed in something, whether that be a conversation, a game, a joke, or a book. He is quite a sunny character, so is happy a lot of the time in spite of the gloomy circumstances he now finds himself in. A bad mood is one where he struggles to avoid an argument. Duelling and fighting dark wizards aside, he doesn't like conflict, and doesn't deal with it very well. He avoids it wherever possible, and where necessary closes up and waits for it to go away. He also sometimes finds sorrow in contemplating why anybody would become a dark wizard. Being a dark wizard is a sadder fate in his eyes than being a victim of one.

Weaknesses: Kingsley can be a little aloof. Not cold, precisely, but definitely on the chilly side of cool. Although he's easy to get to know, he's difficult to get to know well. Kingsley is heavily work-focused and doesn't spend enough time on friendships or romance. He decides what he's going to do, then does it with a bulldozing determination, and never mind other things that come up which might be more important in the long term. He just wants to get the job done before moving on to the next. This inflexibility has mellowed somewhat with age.
Strengths: If Kingsley has some serious flaws, he is also gifted with great strengths. He is organised, efficient, intelligent, charismatic, hardworking, and talented in many areas - leading him to success in virtually everything he puts his mind to. Typically this is work, but if he dedicates himself to something extra-curricular, he certainly won't do it half-heartedly. (Despite enjoying Quidditch, he refrained from ever trying for the team at Hogwarts because he knew it would distract him from his studies, and he would be disappointed in himself if he became anything so frivolous as a professional Quidditch player). Despite his single-mindedness, Kingsley is laidback with a capital L. He doesn't suffer from stress and when he isn't working finds no trouble in relaxing completely. He is not easily ruffled by circumstance and keeps a cool head in a crisis. He's also cool himself, in some indefinable way. This probably isn't really due to his single hooped earring or sharp fashion sense, but it might help. He's brave - hence being sorted into Gryffindor. He can face fear and barge right through it as long as he knows he's right. He is highly idealistic, like his whole family, and will sacrifice his life and sanity for the right cause. He also has a lively sense of humour, typically expressed by a deep rumbling belly laugh.

Family and Friends:

Kingsley always got on well with all of his family. They don't see each other that regularly, but stay in touch. Kingsley has a particular soft spot for his little sister, Rosa.
Mother – Celia Shacklebolt (nee Hope), half-blood (father a muggle), retired Library Assisstant
Father – Granville Shacklebolt, half-blood (mother muggle-born, father half-blood), retired Hit Wizard
Sister – Rosa Shacklebolt, Healer, currently working in a research lab in Zambia trying to find a magical cure for Malaria
Maternal Grandparents – Anne Hope (nee Johnson), homemaker, and Henry Hope (deceased), bus-driver
Paternal Grandparents (both deceased) – Elizabeth Shacklebolt (nee Attwood, worked as a secretary in Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office) and Jonathan Shacklebolt (Auror and sat on the Wizengamot in his last years).

Kingsley has a lot of friends, but not many people he's really close to. He gets on well with pretty much everybody. He is quite prepared to befriend people with whom he has little in common, and bears no grudges towards people who aren't actually very nice. His only sticking point is politics - is he hears you express any kind of bloodist, racist or xenophobic attitudes he won't like you at all. He doesn't budge on this. He does, however, forgive even these easily if people apologise or change their minds. He has kept in contact with a few of his school-fellows, a few people he was in Auror training with, and a few colleagues, but in the main now his friends are in the Order.
Remus Lupin - Kingsley has a great deal of respect for Remus, and they tend to agree on Politics and stratagems more often than not. For this reason as much as a sympathy in temperament, Kingsley would count Remus as a good friend.
Hestia Jones - Kingsley has a great deal of affection for Hestia but found her recent confrontations hard to deal with. I expect towards the end they would have come up against each other in the Order quite frequently. When she left and formed the Legion, Kingsley would have been more saddened than angry, and he is currently grieving for her supposed death.
Aberforth Dumbledore - Kingsley finds Aberforth amusing. He's sorry if that's patronising, he doesn't mean it to be, he just finds sarcasm funny.
Patricia Stimpson - Kingsley has become rather attached to Patricia since the Order went into hiding, partly because her status as Healer for the Order reminds him of his sister, whom he misses a great deal. He also finds her lively nature invigorating. He is currently very sympathetic towards her following her father's death.
The Weasleys - Kingsley loves the Weasley family. He views them as the heart of the Order and has welcomed the additions of Angelina, Harry, and (in his mind?) Hermione under the Weasley umbrella.

Appearance: Kingsley is very tall (6ft 7) and very bald. He is also quite large in general, both in build and in things like feet and hands. He takes care with his appearance and dresses in a range of wizarding and muggle clothes, from dress robes and impeccable suits for formal wear to stylish shirts, t-shirts, jackets and jumpers for casual wear. Which isn't to say he's vain, precisely, he just likes to be well-turned out. He is never seen without a characteristic hooped single gold earring, and no-one has ever found out if there's actually a reason for that or if he just likes it. He is fairly good-looking, but nothing spectacular. More noticeably he looks pleasant - despite his height and frame, it would be difficult to be frightened of him unless you had to face him in battle.
PB: Michael Clarke Duncan
Sexuality: bisexual, but he generally considers himself too busy for romantic relationships, so his experience with women is minimal and his experience with men zilch.
Achievements: Kingsley attained excellent OWLs and NEWTs scores, easily making the Auror training programme. He qualified with flying colours, scoring particularly high on Magical Combat and on Criminal Investigation, but barely scraping by on Concealment and Disguise as he is rather bulky and quite distinctive-looking.
Hobbies: He likes to read non-fiction, he likes playing Quidditch, and he has a fondness for the jazz music his parents listened to when he was a child. Mostly, though, he manages to find work to do in his supposed 'free' time, reasoning that will be fine providing it is a different kind of work, since 'a change is as good as a rest.'

Biography

Kingsley's maternal grandparents, Henry and Anne Hope, emigrated to England from Barbados with their daughter Celia in 1956. London Transport (LT) were recruiting for workers from the former British colonies in the aftermath of the Second World War, and the family had suffered severe hardships as a result of the country's seasonal unemployment. Although it was difficult at first, Anne's power as a witch made living conditions less cramped and they soon learnt to call London home. Celia was allowed to transfer from her witches-only school in Trinidad and at Hogwarts was sorted into Gryffindor, where she easily bonded with her peers. Kingsley's paternal grandfather, Jonathan Shacklebolt, was one of a number of well-respected Aurors called to Europe from elsewhere in the world to help in the fight against the Dark Wizard Grindelwald. Whilst most of his colleagues returned home after Grindelwald was defeated, Jonathan and Elizabeth chose to remain in England where they had made good friends. Their two sons, Maurice and Granville, attended Hogwarts and were sorted into Hufflepuff and Gryffindor respectively. Kingsley's parents were in the same year at Hogwarts, in Gryffindor, and shared a common interest in jazz music. The formation of their relationship was predictable (especially in the eyes of their friends) and smooth. They married a year out of Hogwarts and Celia gave birth to Kingsley 3 years later. The family lived in Kensal Rise, London, where they were fully integrated into the black muggle as well as the magical community. Celia's mother, Anne, lived in a granny flat attached to their home and home-educated her grandchildren.

It was no surprise when Kingsley got his Hogwarts letter - he had been 'accidentally making things happen' for a few years, most notably levitating his baby sister when she fell off her nappy-changing table. Neither was it surprising that he was sorted into Gryffindor, like his parents. He soon integrated into school life and quickly made - acquaintances, at least, possibly friends. His best subjects were DADA and Transfiguration. Whilst at school he was often to be found in the library, but also enjoyed just hanging out in the Gryffindor common room, watching and occasionally participating in whatever was happening, or flying on the Quidditch pitch. He was not close to the Marauders, but he was fond of them as being highly entertaining. In his fourth year Peeves noticed Kingsley's image-consciousness and leapt upon it, believing foolishly that because Kingsley is typically quiet he had found an easy target. He followed Kingsley around chanting a song of his own making - Old King Cool (to the tune of 'Old King Cole') but was disconcerted when, upon first hearing it, Kingsley threw back his head and laughed, and in subsequent renditions sang in harmony along the bass line. This incident sparked off a fondness in Kingsley for the poltergeist that was not reciprocated. Kingsley enjoyed his time at Hogwarts but was not sad to leave, as he felt it was time to move on.

Back in the Order's early days, he was never invited into it because it was sometimes difficult to tell exactly which side he was on, particularly as he is sympathetic and nice to pretty much everyone. Not that anyone was about to accuse him of being a death eater - he's pretty definite about that sort of thing, but because he likes to be on the good side of everybody, his more specific loyalties might be harder to place. Although he clearly thought highly of Professor Dumbledore, members of the Order of the Phoenix were put off recruiting him initially because his family has always worked for and been loyal to the Ministry.

Kingsley went onto Auror training (see 'Achievements' above) and qualified as a full Auror in 1980. Ever the workaholic, he moved up the ranks fairly quickly to become a Senior Auror in 1992. He remained in the Ministry's employ in spite of his Order allegiances (passing on insider information to the Order and sabotaging the hunt for Sirius Black), right up until The Weasley-Delacour wedding, when he was forced underground with the rest of the Order. He has spent most of the time post-takeover in Order safehouses as he is quite difficult to disguise except with Polyjuice Potion. He has also spent some time in muggle communities, as his background make it easy for him to adapt to muggle life, and his easy-going nature makes it easy for him to befriend and get along with people who might otherwise be suspicious. He was captured outside the safehouse in Otterton St. Catchpole and nearly executed in July of last year, but was rescued by the Order at the last minute. The experience left him uncharacteristically shaken, but he has not shied from missions since. If he has to die for the cause, then so be it.
